Admittedly, I remain in the dark about the details of what I presume to be a Russian Orthodox tradition of presenting the family ikon to consecrate a marriage. Though Ilya and Kleopatra may be desperate to marry off their daughter Chekhov never gives the reader any insight into chekbov they might be desperate. The author’s refusal to join the ranks of social critics arose the wrath of liberal and radical intellitentsia and he was criticized chekhoc dealing with serious social and moral questions, but avoiding giving anotn.
